UNDERSTANDING THE TREATMENT

How does Red Light Therapy work for Skin Conditions?

Red light therapy at 635nm works at a cellular level to calm inflammation, one of the primary drivers behind acne, eczema, and persistent redness. By delivering precise wavelengths of therapeutic light deep into the skin, it helps reduce the overactive immune responses that trigger irritation and breakouts.

Unlike topical treatments that address symptoms on the surface, 635nm red light supports healing from within. It promotes cellular repair, accelerates the regeneration of damaged tissue, and helps restore the skin's natural protective barrier.

The result is calmer, clearer skin achieved through a completely non-invasive process — no harsh chemicals, no medication side effects, and no downtime. It is a gentle yet effective approach that works with your body's own healing mechanisms to promote long-term skin health.

THE SCIENCE

How It Works

635nm red light therapy follows a clear biological pathway to calm skin conditions and support lasting improvement from within.

01

Light Penetrates the
Skin

Therapeutic 635nm red light passes through the skin's surface and is absorbed by cells in the deeper layers, reaching the areas where inflammation and damage originate.

02

Inflammatory Response Reduces

The absorbed light energy helps regulate overactive immune responses, reducing the chronic inflammation that drives acne flare-ups, eczema patches, and persistent redness.

03

Skin Cell Repair Accelerates

Cellular energy production increases, accelerating the repair of damaged tissue and strengthening the skin's natural barrier function against future irritation.

04

Clearer, Calmer Skin Emerges

Over a course of treatments, breakouts become less frequent, redness subsides, texture evens out, and the skin develops a healthier, more resilient appearance.

INCLUDED WITH EVERY SESSION

Enhanced With Vibration Plate Therapy

Every red light therapy session at Dr Lilly Health and Wellness Practitioner includes time on our metabolic activation vibration plate, designed to complement and enhance your skin treatment results.

The vibration plate improves blood circulation throughout the body, which plays a direct role in skin health. Better circulation means more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to skin cells, supporting faster healing, improved cellular repair, and more efficient removal of metabolic waste.

For skin conditions like acne, eczema, and redness, this enhanced nutrient delivery helps the skin recover more effectively between sessions and supports the long-term improvements achieved through red light therapy.

Improved blood flow to support skin cell nourishment

Enhanced delivery of oxygen and nutrients to damaged tissue

More efficient metabolic waste removal from the skin

Complements red light therapy for faster, more visible results

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Yes—red light wavelengths are non-ablative, pigment-neutral, and do not trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or hypo-pigmentation.

Does treatment hurt or cause peeling?

No. Clients feel a gentle warmth; there’s no peeling, stinging, or photosensitivity. You can return to work or school immediately.

How many sessions before I see results?

Many notice redness calming within the first 1–3 sessions. Fewer active breakouts and faster healing typically appear by weeks 3–4. Full skin-cycle results build over 8–12 sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

For moderate acne, we recommend 2 sessions per week for 4–6 weeks (8–12 total). Severe or cystic cases may benefit from 12–16 sessions, followed by monthly maintenance.

How long do results last?

Breakout reduction can last months if you maintain healthy skincare habits. Most clients schedule a maintenance session every 4–6 weeks to keep inflammation low and skin clear.

Can teens use Red Light Therapy?

Absolutely. It’s drug-free, gentle, and ideal for young skin. We simply require parental consent for clients under 18.

Is it effective on hormonal or adult acne?

Yes. By reducing inflammation, balancing oil production, and improving skin healing speed, dual-wavelength photobiomodulation benefits teenage, adult, and hormone-related breakouts alike.

Will light therapy replace my topical or prescription treatments?

It can reduce reliance on harsh topicals, but it’s best used alongside dermatologist-approved cleansers or medications. Never stop prescriptions without your doctor’s guidance.

Can it help rosacea-style redness?

The anti-inflammatory effect of 635 nm light often reduces diffuse facial redness and supports stronger capillary walls, making it useful for mild rosacea flare-downs (consult first for severe cases).

What about acne scars or dark marks?

Consistent sessions promote new collagen and normalise melanocyte activity, helping soften atrophic scars and fade hyperpigmentation over time.

Is there downtime, special after-care, or makeup restrictions?

No downtime. You may apply non-comedogenic makeup afterward. We simply recommend SPF 30+ daily and gentle, fragrance-free skincare to complement healing.
